GENERAL INFORMATION
Chrome-plated steel is a tinplate substitute material developed in the early 1960s to reduce the amount of tin use and reduce the cost. It is also called Non-tin steel and is chrome-plated on low-carbon steel. The protective layer is composed of extremely thin metal chromium and chromium non-metallic chromium layer (chromium hydroxide). It is one of the materials for can making. The trade name is chrome-type tin-free steel sheet (TFS-CT), referred to as TFS. (Tin Free Steel).
APPLICATION
Tin free steel, with similar performance to tinplate, has good corrosion resistance, good adhesion of paint and ink, and surface oxidative discoloration. It is especially suitable for making crown caps, food and beverage cans’ ends, high sulfur resistance two-pieces cans, pencil cases, thermos and other general line cans. Due to the decreasing tin resources and the lower production cost of TFS compared to ETP, Tinplate is currently being replaced by TFS in the crown caps.
